Paul Delaroche Le Jeune Martyre
Product Description
Paul Delaroche Le Jeune Martyre
Delaroche may be best known today for his painting "The Young Martyr" which hangs in Louvre, Paris. Depicting the death of a young Christian martyr in the 3rd century AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, this painting was completed a year before Delaroche's death in 1856. Le Jeune Martyre has been called the "Christian Ophelia" since it resembles Pre-Raphaelite artists' portrayals of Ophelia from Shakespeare's Hamlet.
